​Assessment of Soil and Water Conservation Practices and its Implication on Soil Physicochemical Properties, at West Guji Zone, Gelana Woreda, Southern Ethiopia

Background: Land degradation is one of the major challenges in developing nations like Ethiopia. The study was conducted on both conserved and non-conserved land. A total 18 composite soil samples were collected from top 0-20 cm depths to analyze selected physical chemical properties soil. Methods: For data analysis one-way variance (ANOVA) used. From our observation water conservation practice which found area cut-off drains, waterways, bunds bench terrace also traditionally they use horizontal plough, land rotation, crop rotation mulching management. Result: results revealed that properties: organic matter, available phosphorous, pH, cation exchange capacity, bulk density moisture shows significant difference between lands. However texture nitrogen no difference. had low Cation nitrogen, with highest density. Further research recommended magnitude effects a better understanding sustainable practices.
